About this website

理想郷 (Risokyo) means utopia in Japanese, and it is also the name of an EP released by ICEx in 2025. I've always dreamed of having a little utopia of my own to have fun and be myself in without fear of judgement. And with ICEx having a song literally called utopia, I'd be a fool to not capitalize on that opportunity to name my site that (lol).

I grew up with parents who are not that great. I get that they're trying their best, but does "trying their best" excuse emotional neglect? Who knows. As a result, I was basically raised by the internet. I've been chronically online since I was 13, and the internet feels like home to me. It didn't help that I had no privacy either (I didn't have my own room and my family would read my diaries, then yell at me for experiencing negative emotions). As such, I've always been fascinated by the concept of a personal space. Who wouldn't want a space to themselves where they're surrounded by the things they love? I used to indulge in the idea of a personal space via my sketchbooks. I drew a lot as a teen and my sketchbooks felt like home. It was my own space for me to play and create, a space created by me and for me. I don't really draw anymore though. I enrolled into a design college under my parent's pressure to "just pick a college course already". I hate this course. The lecturers are horrible. My art lecturer was especially horrible and narcissistic, to the point where I genuinely lost all the motivation and love I had for art. So being unable to draw now meant I lost the one and only space that existed for me. Ever since then, I've been on the hunt for a new personal space to exist in.

Around 2021, I was a chronically online Twitter user that was in multiple fandom spaces due to the lockdown, and I loved carrd and rentry (this was before strawpages took off, sorry I'm an unc). Was I bad at making them? Definitely. But I loved the idea of having a small space to yourself where you can dump all about your interests. Of course, the carrd/rentry was just a basic introduction, and the interest dumping happened on the user's Twitter page itself. But the idea always stuck with me. I'd like to have a carrd that, instead of serving just as my introduction, it served as my personal space. I went to google if the idea of a personal website/blog was a thing, which was how I found out about neocities!

I initially started out with a layout generator by petrapixel (please check it out it's so well made!), but I felt no connection towards it ngl. Sure it looked pretty, but I felt like it wasn't really my own space. So I scrapped it and re-did everything from scratch, which resulted in what you're seeing right now. Sure it looks ass and sure the code is trash, but I feel connected towards this website that I created with my own two hands! I'm very proud of it! I love my personal little digital home ♡

On the topic of personal spaces...

This is more so just rambling on my end, but I think that ita bags can also be considered a personal space! Maybe I'm just biased because I love looking at other people's ita bags (lol), but I feel the same when I look at an ita bag as I would looking at someone's personal website. It's filled with what the owner likes and decorated to the owner's liking. It makes the owner happy and you can tell that there's love and heart and passion that went into it. I believe that, while not 100% the same as a personal website or anything, ita bags are also a very nice and adorable personal space!

While I no longer draw, I do still have the urge to make something and create (hence the existence of this site lol). I'm thinking of getting into scrapbooking, specifically cute maximalist scrapbooking! Idk what the actual term for it is sorry orz. An example is included to the right, credits to sailorkli on pinterest! But to me this kind of journal/scrapbook reminds me of the joy of looking for random pngs I like to cobble together a personal website. It looks fun and I want to give it a shot! I love to hoard staionery anyway, might as well put them to good use.

Either way, that's all from me about this website. If you've read up until this point, thank you! I'm not sure why you would, but thank you for reading nonetheless! Feel free to continue looking around, I hope you enjoy your stay!
